A Professional Development Workshop USING GIRL RISING TO TEACH THE SDGs February 24 at 4:30 pm ET
Do you teach the UN's Sustainable Development Goals – or do you want to? Learn how educators are using Girl Rising to explore the SDGs with their students, particularly – but not exclusively – quality education (SDG 4), gender equality (SDG 5), and climate action (SDG 13). Join our PD Workshop and hear from teachers about how the Girl Rising stories provide a natural route into engaging classroom discussions about critical issues raised by the SDGs. Thursday, February 24th at 4:30 pm ET. Register here.

More about ... DISCOVERING THE CHANGEMAKER WITHIN Upper Elementary & Middle School Unit
Our PD Workshop is available online!
As many of you know, last month we launched "Discovering the Changemaker Within", a unit that can be used to teach a range of subjects, including reading, writing and social studies. If you weren't able to attend our introductory virtual PD workshop, you can watch it here anytime – and you can register for the unit here.

And ... feeling lucky? Win a set of Girl Rising books.
If you register for the "Changemaker" unit – and if you've decided to teach it – you are eligible to enter our book giveaway drawing and a chance for your classroom to win a FREE set of our young adult book, Girl Rising: Changing the World One Girl at a Time. The drawing will take place on March 1, 2022. More information when you register here.
And ... They're Off! The GR Educator Cohorts
There's excitement in the air as the first group of Girl Rising Educator Cohorts has launched! As you may recall, this pilot project brings together educators who believe Girl Risings' stories can energize and engage their students. It creates a collaborative community where experiences can be exchanged and learnings shared. In last month's newsletter, we introduced our four Cohort Leaders; now here's a little bit about the 20+ Cohort Members – the educators who will design and teach their own units. The CMs are from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida and North Carolina. Among other subjects, they teach science, art, math, English, social studies, music and ... other teachers. They include social works and librarians. And they work in-school and after-school with upper elementary, middle and high school students. The cohorts have only just begun and already we're exhilarated. We can't wait to see what emerges.

Inspired? We plan to launch a new group of cohorts in time for the next school year. So if you are experienced at teaching Girl Rising and interested in leading a cohort, please email us at educate@girlrising.org.
Student Creations
We love it when teachers share their students' work with us. And we love it still more when the students give us permission to share it with our GR Educator community. Abbi Emmonette is a junior at North Broward Preparatory School in Coconut Creek, FL. She produced this film analysis of Ruksana's story for her Language and Literature course.
