A New Approach to Assessment
Multiple-choice tests don't reveal student reasoning. DBQs take forever to grade. Fortunately, we have research-backed alternatives for assessing students' historical thinking skills and knowledge that can be used flexibly as bell ringers, exit slips, summative tests, and more. Join us for the Beyond the Bubble: Assessing Historical Thinking institute taking place the evenings of March 9, 16, and 23, to learn about assessments that go beyond quizzing rote recall.
Design Principles of History Assessments of Thinking In the first session, we'll explore the design principles of our short tasks that gauge students' historical thinking and can be used flexibly and formatively.
Assessment in the Reading Like a Historian Curriculum We'll focus on how to incorporate formative assessment into inquiry-based history lessons in the second session.
Curricular Integration
On the final day, we'll provide strategies for how you can create your own document-based history assessments of thinking.
