Resources from the Choices Program
Ukraine is currently facing the threat of an invasion by the Russian military and a war, a crisis that involves the European Union, Ukraine, the United States, and Russia. The Ukraine Crisis, the latest free Teaching with the News from the Choices Program, considers recent developments between Russian and Ukraine. In the three-part lesson, students explore the current situation and its historical origins; analyze political cartoons that depict the Ukrainian crisis and identify the techniques used by cartoonists to express political opinion; and monitor the Ukrainian crisis and consider international responses. Free Teaching with the News lessons from the Choices Program provide complete lesson plans for teachers to use over one or two class periods as a means to connect classrooms to headlines in the news.
